What's an etching? It's a complicated process involving scribing a metal plate and submerging it in acid. The resulting impressions are far more richly detailed than modern printing methods yield. The prints are made one at a time; the wet paper is pressed onto the metal plate using a roller press and air-dried in a special rack. Because the process is so labor-intensive, etchings are typically more expensive than prints produced by other means. There's an interesting video of the process here
ABOUT THE ARTIST: Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt is one of the most famous and revered 20th century dog artists. He was born in 1895 in Leipzig , Germany and died in Munich in 1977. He studied at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts, where he became a student under the artists Theodor Hagen and Lionel Feininger. He rejected a professorship in Weimar and went to Munich in 1918, where he decided to work entirely on animal engravings.
