Innotek Model CT400-A Contain and Train Invisible Dog Fence with 2 Shock Collars *USED - ONLY 1 AVAILABLE - NOT RETURNABLE, PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY*
This was purchased with 2 purposes in mind. To deter our persistent German Shepherd Zack's horse-chasing hobby, and to thwart our other dog Paws' diabolical efforts to lead said directionally-impaired German Shepherd a few miles from home and return without him.
It worked perfectly on the horse-chasing problem, so long as we could catch him in the act. Being dedicated in his efforts, this was easier said than done, but it did improve things considerably and surely saved us vet bills as he'd been kicked more than once.
The Invisible Fence/Containment feature was never put into service. It was my intention to run the boundary wire above ground; attaching it to the same posts as our existing (high tensile wire) perimeter fence. I spent time on the phone with customer service at Innotek, trying to get to someone who would tell me if this could be made to work. This was an "off-label" installation, so I got no info either way. Eventually I gave up and stashed the box and all contents except the hand-held transmitter and the horse-chaser's collar, which we used daily.
After Zack passed, those were also put away as the next dog didn't need them. Two dog-generations later, we found ourselves with a pair of Labradors; Puppy and Bailey, who found passing bicyclists irresistible, becoming selectively deaf. In an effort to restore their hearing, I broke out the collars, but I couldn't get them to work. The company Innotek had since merged and is now Petsafe. I called for support and/or replacement parts and was told that they no longer supported this model. Instead, they offered me a big discount on brand new collars so I got those as they are rechargeable and these use batteries.
I am hoping someone can get some use out of this. Contain and Train systems/components come up for sale on Ebay frequently with the complete set with just one collar selling for well over $200. Single collars alone have sold for over $100. Replacement transmitters are available. The caveat is if you get stuck, there's no manufacturer support to help figure it out.
This listing includes 500' of the 20 gage boundary wire, which is $42.95 at Petsafe here.
All of the components for this CT-400A set are included (with instructional VHS video and paper manuals.) All are UNUSED with the exception of the hand-held transmitter and ONE collar. I couldn't get that collar to work and I was unable to determine if the problem was the collar, the transmitter or operator error. It worked when put into storage and has been in climate-controlled environment since.
